When a housing development intrudes on their woodland habitat and an opossum is kidnapped by an evil exterminator, three wise-cracking rodents and one very neurotic reptile invade the burbs in a quest to rescue their friend. Battle the exterminator and his army of mind-controlled mammals, and save the forest from the world's peskiest critter man. In over 30 mission-filled levels, gamers can switch between two characters on the fly, or select multiplayer mode to join forces with a friend. Gamers interact with all characters from the film, as well as all-new characters that live only in the game. The fast-paced adventure takes place in more than 10 new locations not featured in the film including the exterminator's lab, the sewers, and the wild Western theme park. Based on the highly-anticipated feature film from DreamWorks Animation, Over the Hedge is a wildly adventurous game that takes players on an interactive adventure beyond the story seen in the film.
Assuming the roles of RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle, Hammy the squirrel and Stella the skunk, players turn a suburban neighborhood loaded with dangerous obstacles and traps into their own personal playground. Numerous puzzles and mini-games keep fans busy as they switch between two of the four main characters or engage in two player co-op with friends. In the console and PC versions of Over the Hedge, gamers find themselves in suburban madness when they choose to play as RJ, Verne, Hammy or Stella and switch between the characters or engage in two-player co-op with a friend.
Comprised of more than 30 puzzle-filled levels, players use golf clubs, hockey sticks and other everyday items as they dodge lasers, defeat enemies and plan and execute heists. You can either play this game by yourself or with another player. All of them have the same attack features and depending on which characters you play as, you can also hear their own personal dialogue depending on the level which makes replayability all the more encouraged.
The difficulty of the game can vary depending on how easy of a level you set the game to in the options menu. The levels keep in spirit to the rules of the Over the Hedge movie and there are many places to visit that are either familiar or completely new. My only big complaint in the entire games is that the mini games are not that good and they don't control as well as in story mode and the game would have been better without those features. In the video game, which takes place a year after the movie, RJ, Hammy, Verne, and the gang feel that they need to have more things for the log . This leads them on a wild romp through six different areas to snatch different things such as a popcorn machine and a TV for themselves.
Based on the highly-anticipated feature film from DreamWorks Animation, Over the Hedge for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy® Advance are two unique games that takes players on an interactive adventure beyond the film. Assuming the roles of RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle and Hammy the squirrel, players turn a suburban neighborhood loaded with dangerous obstacles and traps into their own personal playground. Over the Hedge for the Nintendo DS picks up after the movie ends and adds an all-new storyline in which the characters must figure out how to save their woodland home from being overtaken by a new housing development. Over the Hedge for Game Boy Advance closely follows the storyline of the movie and allows players to experience the adventures for themselves.
Unlike most other video game based movies, this game actually doesn't go through the exact same story beats as it does in the movie. There are a few levels that are movie based but for the most part, the story itself is completely original from its movie source material. The game takes place one year after the events of the movie and it turns out the exterminator is back and is out for revenge.
He has managed to kidnap a bunch of innocent animals and hyponistid them to do his dirty work. Yeah it's insane but i'd be lying if i didn't say I wasn't invested. The Only Game That Lets Players Relive Movie Moments And Beyond - In over 30 mission-filled levels, gamers can switch between two characters on the fly, or select multiplayer mode to join forces with a friend.
One of the few unique things about Over the Hedge is the fact that, even when you're playing by yourself, there's always an artificial intelligence-controlled companion animal to back you up, and you can switch between the two of them on the fly. It ends up being kind of a so-what feature, since there's little appreciable performance difference between any of the characters, and you rarely even find obstacles that require cooperation to overcome. We ended up playing as Verne the turtle most of the time, just because we liked his double-jump animation better. Dreamworks game referencesAfter completing the Projector Heist level, go by the tree stump in the woods.
The two possums will be watching Shrek Super Slam on the film projector. The projector and laptop show different Dreamworks video game screens. The laptop always shows Shrek Super Slam; however, the projector is different. From when you first get the projector until about half way through, Shrek Super Slam is on the screen.
From about halfway through the game until just before you play the final level, it plays Shark Tale. However, even though they show the video games the animals sitting next to the projector will talk as if they were watching the actual movie. Over the Hedge is a fun action-based video game based on the film of the same name. Released back in 2006 for the Game Boy Advance handheld system, the game takes place a year after the events of the film. In this game, Verne, Hammy, RJ, and the rest of the gang decided they want to expand their tiny little log they call home. The goal of the game is to go around the map and steal various things from the humans while avoiding the Dwayne the Verminator.
Afterwards, the game jumps forward in time to one year later, when raiding people's houses for food and other things has become routine for the Hedgies. One day, however, they come home to find all their food has been stolen and their stuff broken. As it turns out, Dwayne the Verminator, known to the animals as "The Sniffer", has returned with an army of brainwashed animals, all of which are controlled using mind control caps that he has invented. Over the Hedge is a 2006 video game based on the film of the same name, and a sequel to the same film. It was published by Activision, and was released on May 9, 2006.
Edge of Reality developed the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox versions, Beenox developed the PC version, and Vicarious Visions developed handheld versions for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. In the video game, which takes place a year after the movie, RJ, Hammy, Verne, and the gang have all their stuff stolen from the log by The Sniffer, , and VermTech. For some reason or another, our cinema is being bombarded with CG animated movies featuring talking animals. I suppose it has something to do with the relative ease of creating caricatured animals as opposed to realistic humans and the lowered expectations of viewers contained therein, but there could be other explanations for this zoophilic movie pandemic.
One of the side effects, however, is licensed games based on said movies, and the utter horror that usually accompanies them. However, while the GameCube version of Over The Hedge may have its issues, I don't believe this game will give players the bubonic plague upon startup. Over the Hedge the game is a nice and breezy game that I'll be sure to return to a few times more. It's quirky but likable tone, pretty good graphics and simple but effective gameplay results in an overall fun experience for you and a friend.
I may have grown out of watching the Over the Hedge movie, but I'll never grow out of playing its video game counterpart. Two different kinds of attack can be employed, melee and ranged. Weapons include golf clubs, sticks, baseball bats, plungers and other everyday items. Ranged attacks consist of throwing boomerangs, frisbees and shooting golf balls, these attacks can be charged up.
There are also energy attacks, projectile weapons and objects to pick up and throw at enemies. The game has several pickup weapons, such as weapons that only opponents have (i.e., a trowel). There are also guns that can be picked up, such as a toy ball launcher, a freeze ray, a bubble shooter, or a lava blaster.
"In collaboration with DreamWorks Animation we have developed three unique titles introducing new characters and all-new storylines expanding the Over the Hedge world," said Kim Salzer, vice president of global brand management, Activision Publishing. In addition, the title boasts dozens of puzzles and mini-games and a two-player cooperative mode.
If you played Shrek 2 on any console, you will notice the similarities right away. The game is basically the same, minus the 4-player support. In this main mode, you will do the same things you usually do in these types of games. That is, fight wave after wave of enemies until there are no more and then search for a door that opened because of your domestic violence. However, dispersed throughout Over the Hedge are tiny minigames that pop up every now and then in order to keep things from being too monotonous. One such involves this hyperactive chipmunk named Hammy pressing buttons on a control panel as they light up.
Another features tossing food into the animal's wagon for transport back uh… Over the Hedge. It does help quash the same-y feeling, but not for very long. After that, the game degrades into the same boring thing Shrek 2 did, although not as badly this time. The game allows a second player to press a button on the second controller and join the game at any time, as well as pause the game and drop out. There are also plenty of obstacles and hazards to overcome, as well as objectives to complete and extras to collect. The game also has an array of hats, which when collected make a humorous sound and act as armor.
These include a chef hat, a crown, a witch hat and a hockey helmet amongst others. The handheld versions of Over the Hedge give players two unique adventures. The Nintendo DS version takes place after the events seen in the movie and features an all-new storyline in which the characters must figure out how to save their woodland home from the encroaching home development. Over the Hedge for the Game Boy Advance closely follows the storyline of the movie allowing players to live the adventures of the movie. As a major motion picture, Over the Hedge tells the story of a group of woodland creatures coping with the arrival of Suburbia, presumably with hilarious and perhaps occasionally thought-provoking results.
The game hints at some of the conflict from the film, specifically with an overzealous exterminator and a dark-hearted bear named Vincent. Over the Hedge features 3D platform gameplay as well as mini games. Players navigate a series of homes searching for luxury items, controlling RJ, Verne, Hammy or Stella. Character voices are provided by soundalikes rather than the original actors who recorded the voices for the film.
The game's events start at the very end of the movie, with the animals raiding Gladys' house. During the raid, however, Dwayne the Verminator arrives and captures most of the animals, with the exception of RJ. However, upon seeing the other animals, the ones he's come to call his friends, being driven away in the Verminator's van, RJ has a change of heart and rides the wagon-load of food down the hill and lands on the van. The impact of the wagon on the van causes Hammy and Stella to be freed from their cages. After freeing the other animals, Stella then hijacks the van and drives them back to Gladys' neighborhood.
All through the game, they try to take these things while avoiding the Sniffer , who tries to defeat them by using mind-controlled vermin he has captured as his "henchmen" as well the traps he's placed all throughout the neighborhood. At one point, many animals, including weasels, badgers, moles, and even Vincent the bear are controlled. Character voices are provided by soundalikes rather than the original actors who recorded the voices for the film . As for the sundry aspects of the game, the graphics are smooth, and a 60 frames-per-second is held up most of the time. There is a boatload of stuff to unlock, such as concept art and selections from the comic strip the movie is based on.
Is it a trend to that some of these licensed games poke fun at standard game conventions? In the Steam Train level, after a harrowing segment of platforming, RJ looks ahead and sees moving stacks of lumber and says, "Finally, a moving platform to jump to. But in essence, it is about a group of animals breaking into the suburbs to steal food from the humans who live there, and the humans' attempts to exterminate them all. Going deeper reveals something about immigration and nationalism and something like that, but this is neither the time nor place. The developers made the environments destructible which adds even more fun to this title. Where this game truly shines however is when you're playing with a friend, then it's a total blast to play.
Unfortunately the game is marred by a camera that is troublesome at times and sometimes it can get repetitive. But as a whole, this game is a great buy for kids and even for hardened gamers. Players assume the roles of RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle, Hammy the squirrel and Stella the skunk and turn a suburban neighborhood loaded with dangerous obstacles and traps into their personal playground. These sorts of challenges might sound kind of rad on paper, but the mostly one-button combat and the high-volume/low-variety ratio of enemies pretty much puts the kibosh on much of the game's fun. These moments are few, though, and never present a real challenge. Unlike most video games based on movies, this one starts at the climax of the film, with RJ having his change of heart and the animals defeating Gladys, Vincent, and Dwayne, leaving the forest animals free to do as they please.
Several video games based on the Over the Hedge movie were developed to coincide with the film's release.
